Spring One

Welcome to Boaters in 2022!

This half term, our topic is A Winter's Tale. In this unit we will be finding out about the seasons, in particular the weather  in a British winter and the hibernation of British animals. We will also be finding out about polar regions using maps and globes. We have two lovely books to study which we know the children will enjoy.

Something new to Outwoods this term is orienteering which is a fabulous way to enjoy active learning. We look forward to starting that soon on our PE days which stay the same. Remember to wear PE kits on Mondays and Fridays, ready to get fit and healthy.

What an exciting week Year Two had, learning all about The Great Fire of London! On Thursday, a local fire crew brought in a fire engine for us to look at, then on Friday, we were very lucky when one of our parents brought in his fire safety equipment and PPE to talk about life as a firefighter, and how to keep ourselves safe on bonfire night. We were all asked to check the batteries on our smoke alarms when we got home - have you checked yours yet?

As part of our topic on The Great Fire of London, Year Two walked into Atherstone to visit the bakery. On the way, we noticed that many of our local buildings are similar to seventeenth century buildings. We saw timber beams, houses where upstairs jutted out over the road, lots of windows with small panes of glass, alleyways and cobblestones.

Back in school, we also baked our own bread and had a tour of the modern school kitchen - there is no danger of a stray spark igniting a spark there!

We had a lovely time and really enjoyed our freshly baked bread rolls.

Our Race for Life!!

Boaters have been busy in the garden. We have planted some bulbs and seeds; cut back some old plants and raked up some dead leaves. It is lovely getting out in the Autumn sun!
