Reading in Reception

In Reception, we focus on children a love for reading and share a wide range of different stories with the children throughout the day.

Children are read with by the teachers and teaching assistants weekly and are encouraged to discuss what each book is about. Each child is sent home with a reading book and reading record to encourage reading at home and communication between home and school.

Reading is supporting with daily phonics sessions which begin early in the year. Children will be taught phonics through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.

We will be uploading weekly reading homework tasks onto Tapestry. These are quick recap activities linked directly to your child's learning from the previous week. We cant wait to see you amazing work, don't forget to share it on Tapestry!
