Reading in Reception

In Reception, we focus on children obtaining a love for reading and share a wide range of different stories with the children throughout the day.

Children are read with by the teachers and teaching assistants weekly and are encouraged to discuss what each book is about.

Reading is supported with daily phonics sessions which begin early in the year. Children will be taught phonics through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.

Here is a video showing you the sounds we have been learning recently in Reception. The video will show how we teach the children to say each sound. We are encouraging the children to build up their fluency in being able to identify, say and read words containing these sounds.

Here is a helpful resource to support your child at home. Children will be taught the pronunciation phrases and letter formation phrases.
