Reception - Cowboy Hat 2021/22

Welcome to Cowboy Hat Class!

Our Teacher is Mrs Newton.

In Reception, we take pride in helping your child settle into their first year at school. Our provision enables children to develop as creative, resilient and independent learners. We take time to get to know every child as an individual and endeavour to make their learning and time in school relatable to their own lives and enjoyable.

Throughout Reception, we dive into each topic and thoroughly explore in a range of different ways to suit each child and work alongside the Early Years Framework. The children have access to all areas of learning and development within the provision and complete a mixture of child and adult led activities.

During this half term we will be reading lots of stories, myths and legends! We will be learning and using lots of exciting vocabulary to describe different fantasy creatures we meet along the way!

Summer 1 - Wriggle, wriggle

During this half term our topic is called ‘Wriggle, Wriggle’. We will be exploring minibeasts, learning about life cycles and understanding how things grow. 

Spring 2 - ROAR!

During this topic, we will be learning about various different wild animals and their habitats. One of our topic texts is The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Autumn 1

Our Topic:

This half term our topic has been Marvellous Me, Wonderful You! Throughout this topic we have learnt that we are all unique and special in our own way! All of the children in Reception have made friends with one another and are enjoying playing and learning together.

Healthy Eating

After learning about different types of shops and what they sell, we learnt about having a balanced diet and eating lots of healthy foods. We used our senses to describe different fruits, as well as making our own pot of fruit salad. The children enjoyed cutting, putting together, and eating a variety of fruits. We talked about what fruits are our favourite, and even tried some that we had never tasted before.

Physical Education!

This half term Reception have taken part in some of their first PE lessons! We started by playing different parachute games using the giant parachute, which was a lot of fun! We also played different team games, such as the shark game, bean game and duck duck goose!  In September, Reception took part in Outwoods' Race for Life assault course. We had to climb, run and move in and out of cones, whilst cheering on our friends! This was a great way of raising money for charity!

Halloween!

Cowboy Hat class made a fantastic effort for our Halloween dress up day! There were so many different costumes and everybody looked amazing! We had so much fun celebrating Halloween. We made witches broomsticks out of sticks, read and watched 'Room on the Broom', helped a witch learn to spell and created potions in our water area! One of our favourite activities was decorating yummy Halloween biscuits! This was a lovely treat!

Welcome to Cowboy Hat Class! We have loved meeting you all this week and we hope you have had a fantastic first few days in reception! It has been great to see you enjoying your new classroom and playing with your friends. We hope you are ready for a year of fun and learning!
