Reception - Sun Hat 2021/22

Reception - Sun Hat 2021/22

Welcome to Sun Hat Class!

Our Teacher is Miss Nicholson and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Pearce.

In Reception, we take pride in helping your child settle into their first year at school. Our provision enables children to develop as creative, resilient and independent learners. We take time to get to know every child as an individual and endeavour to make their learning and time in school relatable to their own lives and enjoyable.

Throughout Reception, we dive into each topic and thoroughly explore in a range of different ways to suit each child and work alongside the Early Years Framework. The children have access to all areas of learning and development within the provision and complete a mixture of child and adult led activities.

Our topics for this year are:

Autumn 1 - Marvellous Me, Wonderful You

Autumn 2 - Enchanted Woods

Spring 1 - Home Sweet Home

Spring 2 - Roar!

Summer 1 - Wriggle, Wriggle

Summer 2 - Fantasy Creatures

Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday.

Summer 2- Fantasy Creatures

During this half term we will be reading lots of stories, myths and legends! We will be learning and using lots of exciting vocabulary to describe different fantasy creatures we meet along the way!

Summer 1 - Wriggle, wriggle

During this half term our topic is called ‘Wriggle, Wriggle’. We will be exploring minibeasts, learning about life cycles and understanding how things grow.

Spring 2 - ROAR!

During this topic, we will be learning about various different wild animals and their habitats. One of our topic texts is The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Red Nose Day

Today, we came to school dressed in red and had crazy hairstyles to help raise money for Comic Relief.

Spring 1 - Home Sweet Home

This half term we are exploring our new topic Home Sweet Home. We will be looking at some traditional tales including The Three Little Pigs and Hansel and Gretel as well as learning about different kinds of homes people live in around the world.

Art Week

This week, the children have enjoyed our Art Enrichment Week. We have focussed on the artist Henri Matisse and explored lots of different pieces of his art. Our main project was ‘The Cat with Red Fish’. The children worked hard to sketch the picture and used chalks to add colour.
We think they are amazing!

Dress to Express

For Children’s Mental Health Week, we all came dressed in a way to express ourselves! Children came as various different superheroes and princesses and the teachers wore pyjamas!

Topic Launch!

Today we launched our new topic for this half term ‘Home Sweet Home’.
When the children arrived this morning, they were shocked to find lots of mess in the classrooms! There were piles of bricks, sticks and straw throughout reception. The children used the clues to work out that the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf had visited!
We enjoyed listening to and joining in with the story in our English lesson, helping the pigs count out the right amount of materials in our maths lesson and designing and building new homes for the pigs during our DT topic lesson!

Well done everyone 😀

Autumn 2 - Enchanted Woods

This half term, we have been exploring British wildlife and their habitats. We have enjoyed reading Owl Babies and Pumpkin Soup as our topic texts and playing in our Gruffalo’s Cave role play.

Christmas Jumper Day

We got into the Christmas spirit and all wore our Christmas jumpers and helped to raise some money for Save the Children.

Children in Need

The children in Reception really enjoyed dressing up and raising money for Children in Need.

Remembrance Day

We have been learning about Remembrance Day and why it is important. The children created a wonderful Remembrance Day display with poppy handprints and independent collage poppies. We also helped Miss Wale to paint a giant soldier.

 A wonderful first half term!

Topic - Marvellous Me, Wonderful You

This half term we have been completing our topic Marvellous Me, Wonderful You. We have learned about why we are all unique and thought about how others are special.

Halloween!

Sun Hat class made a fantastic effort for Halloween dress up day! We had a great week celebrating Halloween with our Halloween themed provision, making broom sticks, reading Room on the Broom and decorating Halloween biscuits.

All about Atherstone

We explored our local area by looking at the different houses and shops in Atherstone. The children were able to recognise different buildings and explain what products different shops sell. We looked at Google Maps to work out the route from home to school and identified places that we pass. Afterwards, we went outside to draw our own map on the playground with chalks!

Race for Life

We took part in Outwoods' Race for Life by completing our own obstacle course. We had so much fun and helped raise money for a fantastic charity!

The children balanced, jumped, turned, ran and negogiated the space around them to successfully complete the course. Well done everyone!

What a fantastic first few days in Sun Hat Class! It has been so lovely meeting all of the new Reception children and finding out all about you. The children have had lots of fun and enjoyed making new friends. We cannot wait to spend this year with you!
