Autumn One Topic – Off We Go!

Our topic for this half term is entitled Off We Go! We will be learning all about transport and maps as well as finding out more about our local area, including Atherstone and nearby towns and cities. We are starting the term by reading the story of the Jolly Postman. The children will be reading the story and completing lots of activities about the book. In Maths we will be focusing on the place value of numbers up to and beyond 20. We will be learning how to represent these numbers in different ways and how to compare and order them. We will teach the children how to solve problems involving the place value. In Science, we will be learning about different seasons and how the weather changes throughout the seasons of Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. We will also be conducting weather experiments to find out more about the wind and the rainfall during Autumn.

Reading Update

The children are really enjoying taking part in our new Little Wandle reading groups at school and they now have their own personal logins to access their school reading books electronically at home. We hope you all enjoy sharing and discussing the texts they have been reading and learning about in depth at school. In addition to this, the children are given a school reading book (selected by the class teacher) and a home shared reading book (that they choose themselves.)These will both be in their named reading folder. It is really important that the children bring their reading folder into school EVERY day so they can be read with individually and so that staff can change their books each week. We hope you are all enjoying reading and sharing lots of books together at home and please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the year one team if you have any questions about, or need any support with reading at home or school.
