Space

This half term we are learning about the Solar System and the planets. Do you know how many moons each planet has? Do you know why we have day and night? Do you know why the moon is always changing shape?

Topic Launch Day

Peter Thorpe

We looked at the art work of Peter Thorpe and created our own version of his art work using pastels and paint.

Phases of the Moon: Astronomy and Space for Kids - FreeSchool

https://patreon.com/freeschool - Help support more content like this! The moon changes its shape almost every night. But why? The phases of the moon are caused by the light from the sun and the moon's orbit around the Earth.

In English we are reading the book Cosmic (listen to an extract in the clip below). The children are enjoying finding out about the adventures of Liam and Florida. Will they make it to space?

Presenter and comedian Ed Petrie reads extracts from 'Cosmic' by Frank Cottrell Boyce as part of the 'Bringing Books to Life' series. He explains why he loves the book and shares how it captured his imagination. Ed shares the story of how Liam, an extraordinarily tall boy, is launched into space in an ice cream van.

D.T - Space Buggy

The children are to design a new space buggy for the next moon landing. Here is the start of their journey

Stars & Planet Day

The National Space Center were in our school  all day today!

We had the opportunity to learn about the night sky, the names of the stars in the northern hemisphere and experience the planets close up. We also had the chance to ask a lot of space related questions to help us with our learning.
