Year 2 - Top Hat
Welcome to Top Hats!
Some 'Action' shots from our day!
Year 2 are 'Ready for Action'! We have had lots of fun at school today!
Sunday 1st November
We hope you have enjoyed half term and are ready for an incredible start to our new topics.
Tomorrow, come dressed ready for action when we will launch our new units. See you in the morning!
This half term we shared some wonderful books and stories as part of our recovery curriculum.
We explored friendship and kindness through the wonderful book The Robot and the Bluebird. We wrote notes to help the robot, we studied birds and how to care for them, we made bird feeders and we explored how joints let us move by making paper robots. The little birds have already eaten all the seeds in our birdfeeders!
Another book we have shared is The Colour Monster, a lovely book about how different emotions make us feel. Sometimes it can be difficult to work out how you feel when you are emotional and sometimes your feelings can be all jumbled up. The Colour Monster helps us to unpick our emotions so we can deal with them better. We have been able to use the colours to talk about our own feelings and to track the feelings of characters in books we have read.
At Outwoods, we are very lucky to have such lovely grounds that we could explore this Autumn. In maths, we have collected sticks, acorns and pine cones to help us understand place value. We have also studied the seasons and drawn some beautiful pictures of the autumn trees. We read a book called ‘The squirrels who squabbled’ which helped us understand about Autumn as well as how to share and be kind.
After such a long time off school, we have become a bit rusty with some of our maths, spellings and writing. The children have been working hard to polish their skills and be ready for Year 2 learning.
To end the half term, we have shared lots of fairy stories and traditional tales to help with our reading and writing skills. We have all really enjoyed finding stories that we didn’t know and sharing books with friends.
Half term learning
To keep the learning going over half term we would like you to do the following:
Read! Share lots of books and talk about characters and settings.
Spell! We will be sending home some words for the children to practise. They can use rainbow colours to practise them and write them in a sentence.
Count! We would like the children to practise counting in 2, 5, 10s as well as one and back in 1’s from any number up to 100
Create! The art challenge is to create a large outdoors picture using natural materials such as leaves, acorns and pine cones and a small detailed pencil drawing of something, such as a cobweb, a leaf or an acorn.
