Home Learning

Every week we will be uploading home learning activities on Tapestry for you to do if you are at home isolating or want to practise a little bit more. If you complete any then we would love for you to upload what you have done for us to see!

If you are isolating at home and require any help and support then do not hesitate to email me at

Today in Sun Hat class we spent time looking at the eggs Mrs Taylor has given us. We watched videos of chicks hatching and learned what an incubator is used for. We also looked at non-fiction books to learn more facts about chickens and their life cycle which links in nicely with what we have been doing in English. Miss Wale helped us to complete a torch test and we are hoping for some little chicks to hatch in a couple of weeks. All of the children say a big thank you to Mrs Taylor for giving us some eggs! We are very excited!

Our first Gold Ribbon assembly in a very long time - it was so lovely to get together and for the children from different year groups to see each other. This weeks awards were focused on keeping healthy and fit.

It's hard to believe that we are at the end of our first term together! We are so proud of the children and all that they have achieved during this term.

The children performed their Nativity play this week and they did such a wonderful job - their singing and dancing was just fantastic!

We would like to thank you all for your continuing support throughout this term and also for the lovely Christmas gifts that we have received.

We would like to wish you a very happy Chistmas and a wonderful new year. We really look forward to another exciting term with the children starting in January.

Miss Nicholson and Mrs Taplin.

Forest School

The children have had lots of fun during their forest school sessions! We have learned the basic rules of forest school and how to stay safe in the woodland area. At the beginning of each session we read a story - we really enjoyed the story 'Stanley's Stick' and hearing what different things sticks could be used for.

We have produced lots of fantastic art work using natural resources. During our first session, we went on a hunt to find natural objects such as leaves and sticks (we followed the rules by only picking things up that had already fallen on the ground). With our findings, we created some amazing collage pictures.

In our second session, we got a bit muddy! We used sticks as spades to scoop mud into a cup. We added water to our mud and then used our sticks as spoons to stir and mix. Once it was all mixed up, our sticks became paint brushes for us to paint a picture with our mud paint.

What a fantastic first half term!

We have had a lovely time getting to know everybody in Sun Hat class during this half term. It is amazing to see how much you have all progressed and learnt already! We are looking forward to seeing what else this year has in store! From Miss Nicholson and Mrs Taplin.

Marvellous Me!

This half term our topic has been Marvellous Me! We have had lots of opportunities to think about what things make us special and shared these with our new friends. Kindness and respect has been promoted as we have learnt that we are all special in our own unique ways and not everybody is the same.

Phonics and Reading

We have been busy learning lots of new letter sounds in our phonics lessons. We have also learnt how to use these sounds to read and spell words. The children have enjoyed learning all the songs and actions! They are now using their sounds when reading books with the adults in school. Well done children!

Hello Friend!

We have read lots of exciting stories so far this term, including The Colour Monster and A Squash and a Squeeze. The last three weeks, we have been doing lots of activities based on the "Hello Friend!" story. Reading this book has helped us to think about being kind friends, sharing and taking turns. We have also learnt about making predictions and how to discuss character actions and feelings.

The children have enjoyed exploring numbers up to 5 and 10 in lots of different ways. We have been singing lots of counting songs and nursery rhymes. We have also explored numbers using a range of resources including Numicon. The children are getting so good at counting, ordering and recognising number to 10!
